CPC Consulting News

City of Longmont, CO. The City of Longmont has launched a year-long initiative to develop community-supported strategic policies to enable the City to become a mature, sustainable community. While many communities are planning for how to handle growth, Longmont is looking beyond growth to define the role of City government in the future when the City has reached is no longer expanding its boundaries. A first of its kind in the country, the project involves a four-month appreciative inquiry and summit involving community and city stakeholders, followed by a three- to four-month deliberative dialogue through which priorities will be established for municipal services and government in the future. Catalyst Consulting has partnered with several Denver-area organizations including CPC to facilitate this groundbreaking initiative. Amanda Trosten-Bloom will serve as the consultant during the AI portion of the project.

TAS / Gen-i. In July of this year, New Zealand’s teleco giant Telecom purchased leading IT player Gen-i to merge with its own division, Telecom Advanced Solutions. They retained consultant Mary Alice Arthur to facilitate the Cultural Integration work stream using AI. Mary Alice engaged Amanda Trosten-Bloom as shadow consultant in her five-month facilitation of a Whole System 4-D Dialogue. Between late August and late September, 17 Fusion Forums totaling 322 people were conducted inquiring in to "irresistible leadership," "passionate people," and "raving fans." Stakeholder and benchmarking interviews also took place, and the newly appointed leadership team (under Mary Alice’s facilitation) created a vision statement for its own future. Then in October, 204 stakeholders convened to "fuel the fire" of change and "set the story" of the organization’s future in a three-day summit, during which participants developed:

  • A clear sense of the positive core of the new, merged organization
  • Shared commitment to a three-year internal vision statement
  • A new social architecture in areas such as recruitment and development, knowledge management, business models, and partnership with customers

In addition, they launched innovation teams in areas such as: getting the best of staff; transforming the physical environment to reflect the culture; developing a centralized knowledge base of information and skills; creation of a customer satisfaction "dashboard"; and transformation of financial reporting procedures. As the work of these teams continues, we’ll send periodic updates. Amanda and CPC are proud to have supported this important work from across the waters!

At Lawrence Technological UniversityJackie Stavros and Clarence Rivette led a Strategic Open Community Forum to create the 2004-5 Strategic Plan for Lawrence Technological University. Over 120 members of the LTU community came together twice, to provide their insights on strengths and the competitive environment in which Lawrence Tech operates.  The Board of Trustees and 12 facilitators from various areas of the college supported Jackie and Clarence.  The LTU community set forth ambitious, yet achievable goals for the new year, and refined value, vision and mission statements to be reachable, durable and concise.  The statements reflect hopes for the future, and describe the purpose for which the organization operates and serves.  It was the first time that students, faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees were invited as part of the whole system into the strategic planning process.  This collective and collaborative effort will deliver proven results in the years to come.

What participants are saying about Appreciative Leadership Development Program:

This was a life altering experience. I not only got in touch with my strengths as a leader but really got in touch with who I've been "being" as a leader and what is effective about it as opposed to what I've been "doing" as a leader. I loved how we took the different data points and used them to take a look at ourselves and what we're up to as leaders. I am completely re-inspired as a leader and feel very supported and connected with my colleagues. Thanks.

What participants are saying about The AI Summit:

This event provided a forum to discuss and develop detailed plans for our upcoming summits on Sales and Service. It was interesting to hear from other groups who were using the tool in a variety of applications. The facilitators ensured that all participants made progress and received input and suggestions from the group.

With participation in The AI Summit Workshop, I now see how this wonderful, reaffirming methodology can be applied to Large Scale Change efforts. It's all-inclusive of not only the people, but also all aspects of where they're coming from, how they view the topic, and what they dream possible for the future of the topic. Staying focused on the possibilities is not only fun & rewarding, it's also engaging and creative in a way that creates the space for unanticipated outcomes. And, Jim and Diana are masters at it, which made it even more of a pleasurable experience.
